The video clip, which has recently made the rounds again on social media, shows the pre-SEC Gensler discussing blockchain regulation at the 2019 MIT Bitcoin Expo in a fireside chat with Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) commissioner Hester Peirce. “Bitcoin futures, and I think Ethereum futures and so forth, will exist and Bitcoin ETFs have not and that feels a little inconsistent to me [...]It feels a little inconsistent ,” Gensler said. “Even though the laws aren’t exactly the same, they’re quite similar,” he added. Kaiko suggests why futures Ethereum ETFs release was lackluster

Image
In the past week, six futures-based Ethereum ETFs commenced trading on U.S. markets, securing regulatory approval from the SEC earlier than anticipated. However, these ETFs failed to generate significant trading volumes or provide a notable boost to the cryptocurrency markets. An underwhelming response Kaiko reports that of the six ETFs, the two with the highest trade volume, VanEck’s EFUT and ProShares EETH, experienced an average daily trading volume of only $500,000 during their first week of trading. To put this in context, the first Bitcoin futures ETF, ProShares Bitcoin Strategy (BITO), managed to amass over $1 billion in trade volume on its initial trading day. Bitcoin is consolidating at the top of its range and this is inspiring traders' confidence in a variety of altcoins. United States 10-year Treasury yields soared above 4.8% on Oct. 3, their highest level since 2007. DoubleLine Capital CEO Jeffrey Gundlach said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the spread between the 2-year and 10-year Treasury yields has narrowed from 109 basis points a few months ago to 35 basis points. He cautioned that this “should put everyone on recession warning.” Arthur Hayes, former CEO of crypto exchange BitMEX, warned in a recent X thread that the government will have to print money to save the bond market as a faster bear steepener — a condition where long-term interest rates rise more quickly than short-term rates — will cause firms to collapse. Bitcoin: Bloomberg Strategist Says BTC Could Fall to $10,000

Image
Mike McGlone, the Chief Commodity Strategist at Bloomberg, expects Bitcoin (BTC) to continue shedding value in 2023. In fact, he believes that the apex crypto could even hit a low of $10,000. As per McGlone’s estimates, BTC’s liquidity is likely to remain negative during Q4 2023. As a result, this could bear negative price implications. McGlone shared his forecast on X (formerly Twitter) and said that “Declining Bitcoin has preceded Fed pivots.” Declining Bitcoin Has Preceded #Fed Pivots – The bottom line for #Bitcoin at the start of 4Q may be that liquidity remains negative, with price implications. Ineffective ‘experiment’ by bitcoin miner Marathon results in the mining of an invalid block.

Image
Marathon Digital, a prominent player in the realm of Bitcoin mining, has acknowledged that it inadvertently mined an invalid Bitcoin block as part of an “experimental” endeavor aimed at refining the company’s operational strategies. In a post dated September 27th, Marathon revealed that a minor fraction of the company’s hash rate is allocated to these experiments, emphatically clarifying that their intention was never to tamper with the integrity of the Bitcoin network. Marathon underscored, “This experiment in no way aimed to modify Bitcoin Core in any manner,” emphasizing their swift rectification of the error as soon as the invalid block was detected. Crucially, it’s important to note that the bug responsible for this occurrence originated within the firm’s internal development environment and had no association with Marathon’s Bitcoin production pool or Bitcoin Core—the primary software interface for connecting to the Bitcoin ...

Bitcoin price at risk? US Dollar index confirms bullish 'golden cross'

Grayscale SEC win brings spot GBTC ETF approval a step closer

Grayscale has scored a win in its case against the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) concerning the conversion of its Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC) product into an exchange-traded fund (ETF). The judge in the case specifically found that the “denial of Grayscale ’s proposal was arbitrary and capricious because the commission failed to explain its different treatment of similar products.” The SEC has previously approved futures-based bitcoin ETFs but has yet to approve any spot-based bitcoin ETFs. Grayscale filed this lawsuit after the SEC originally denied the conversion of its GBTC product to an ETF.   The SEC’s denials of spot bitcoin ETFs and approval of futures-based ETFs have frequently appeared to hinge on a belief that the futures were more resistant to manipulation . The judge specifically detailed how “Grayscale presented uncontested evidence that there is a 99.9% correlation between bitcoin’s spot market and CME futures contract ...
